Devoted to authenticity over comfort, Ashley Kimberley finds resonance between complex and beautiful abstract moments using intensity and a visceral quality. You can see the artist’s movement on the surface. Ashley has lovingly called the subject of her paintings “my own selfish truth,” because the painting process is a source of fulfillment, a source of healing, and deeply personal.
Ashley came back to painting after years searching and processing incredible grief rooted in her body and spirit. Abstract painting became a language through which she found expression, power, and even joy again.
Kimberley learned to oil paint as a teenager, through community studio classes, and continued to study art in college. She pursued art and design after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary visual art from the University of Washington. Ashley Kimberley lives in Bellingham, WA. Her studio is in Bellingham’s Fairhaven district.
